Joan T. Jergens, of Sumner, died Saturday, March 4, 2017, at her home in Sumner surrounded by her loving family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner celebrated by Rev. Dale Rausch. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be held at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, and for one hour preceding services time at the church on Wednesday. A Rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at the funeral home.
Joan Teresa, daughter of Fredrick and Rose (Donsbach) Johnson was born August 4, 1939, in Rochester, New York. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Church in Rochester. Joan received her education in the Rochester Schools graduating from Nazareth Academy in 1957. She was united in marriage with Bob Jergens on January 21, 1961, at St. Mary’s Church in Rochester, New York. The couple made their home in West Bend, Iowa prior to moving to Sumner in January of 1979. Joan worked at the Sumner Gazette for many years prior to retiring in 2004. She was a long time member of Immaculate Conception Church in Sumner, the Hospital Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, and the Culture Club. Joan enjoyed reading and crotcheting.
In addition to her husband, Bob of Sumner, Joan is survived by her children, Gail (Kent) Wolfe of West Bend, Sharon (Dean Harville) Winger of Boscobel, Wisconsin, Dave (Anne) Jergens of West Bend, Doug (Amy) Jergens of Gill, Colorado, Mike (Pam) Jergens of Sumner, and Greg (Lindsey) Jergens of Marengo; eighteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Millie (Pat) Russo of Rochester, New York.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bernie, Robert and William Johnson; and two sisters-in-law, Patricia and Eleanor Johnson.
